Galentine’s Day is becoming more and more popular. Girlfriends, food, wine… it sounds like a perfect holiday! Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13, the day before Valentine’s Day. 

#DYK- Galentine’s Day was invented in the TV show Parks and Recreation by the character Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, and is dedicated to celebrating the wonderful female friendships in your life! The message celebrating female friendships resonated with so many women who watched the show that people started celebrating Galentine’s Day in real life! 

Galentine’s Day is about cherishing those friends who have been there through thick and thin. This holiday celebrates female friendship, making it an excellent opportunity to let all your Galentines know how much they mean to you.  Galentine’s Day can also be used as an opportunity to remind yourself of all the wonderful things that make your Galentines so special. Take the time to appreciate the special gals in your life, and celebrate yourself and each other! 

5 Ways to Celebrate Galentine’s Day

However you choose to celebrate the special ladies in your life, make sure it’s heartfelt and that they know just how special they are to you!  Here are some ideas for celebrating Galentine’s Day:

1. Have a Galentines Day Brunch – Get together with your Galentines for an afternoon of laughter and good food, just like Leslie did in the original Galentine’s Day celebration on Parks and Rec. You can host a cozy brunch chez vous, or book a fun restaurant. 
2. Trade Galentine’s Gifts –Homemade gifts are meaningful and appreciated – but so are fun or trendy items from boutiques and specialty shops! From jewelry to baked goods to make up to accessories, gift something special that your friends will appreciate.
3. Send Galentine’s Cards-The art of sending cards is falling by the wayside, so receiving a beautiful card in the mail is always appreciated! Don’t forget to write a heartfelt message in each card or letter to let your Galentines know how much you appreciate them!
4. Exchange Galentine’s Flowers – Celebrate the day by exchanging fresh flowers with your special ladies as a sign of appreciation and friendship.
5. Have a Galentine’s Movie Night – Get cozy with your Galentines and watch a movie or two that celebrate female friendships. Fill the night with laughter and snacks!
